Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center History:

The center began in the summer of 2000 with a mounted animal collection of 23 mammal mounts and 61 bird mounts plus 18 study skins.  The Beaver Creek State Park manager allowed us to use our current building at the park to begin a nature center which has grown into the Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center.  The Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center Volunteer Association began shortly after that.  The center now has a collection of 393 mounts and study skins representing 192 species found in 24 orders and 64 families.

Displays:

Our displays consist of animal mounts in realistic habitats.  The wetland room has over 50 animal mounts while the deciduous forest display contains over 70 animal mounts.  We maintain over 300 mounts as well as many study skins, pelts, skulls, eggs from over 150 species of birds, and many other artifacts.  We also keep several live snakes, turtles, and fish from May through September.

Attention Teachers:

The center is open for school groups and community groups throughout the year.  We will design a program for your class or organization to meet your needs.  We will visit your classroom for programs if needed.  Contact the Education Center Curator, Jim, at 330-301-0019 or the Association Vice President, Darlene, at 330-385-6250 to schedule a visit or program.

Collections:

Our collection of eggs, mounts, study skins, and other natural history items has grown over the years through the hard work of many friends of the Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center Volunteers Association, and through generous donations by folks who share our love of animals and the education of anyone who is interested in wildlife.  We are always searching for anyone who has collections they are willing to donate to the center.  We are especially interested in full body mounts, eggs, skulls, and similar items.  Please contact Jim, the curator of the Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center, at 330-301-0019 if you have any such items you would like to share with us.  We are not able to accept head mounts due to a shortage of space for these items.

Volunteer Information:

Volunteers are a vital part of our Wildlife Education Center. Our volunteer page describes the many ways you can contribute. If you know you're ready to help, you can go right to the Membership Form. Thank You!

Winter programs for volunteers:

Several volunteers have taken advantage of the education programs offered this winter to learn about wetland ecology, field ecology, and Ohio animals that find homes in these two habitats.  So far, the curator of the center has presented three “lessons”.  More lessons will be offered this month and in April on animals found in the center.  Classes will be conducted outside at Beaver Creek State Park throughout the spring and summer.
