Explore the Outdoors

The Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center (BCWEC) in partnership with the Beaver Creek State Park Naturalist (Richelle) would like to invite you to join us for some fun outdoor activities this summer. The following activities will be based on the Explore the Outdoors Activity Guide, published by ODNR, and will be held at Beaver Creek State Park every Saturday starting June 5th at 10am. Activities will be geared toward children ages 6-12, and will last about an hour.  Parents are encouraged to stay and participate with their children.  Please register by calling the Beaver Creek State Park office at 330-385-3091, or Richelle, the Park Naturalist at 330-402-6919. Proper footwear and attire are recommended.  Please bring water and sunscreen. In case of rain, a similar activity will be held inside the Wildlife Education Center, which is located at the entrance to Beaver Creek State Park.

 

June 5th 10am-11am: Learn from a Naturalist (activity seven)

Naturalist programs are a fun way for the entire family to learn something cool about the great outdoors. Come join Naturalist Richelle to learn some fun facts and useful information about exploring the outdoors.

June 12th 10am-11am: Catch a Fish (activity five)

Come join Naturalist Richelle to learn some fishing skills, and then put them to the test at the pond. Please bring your own fishing supplies if you have them, if not we can provide fishing poles and bait. Don’t forget to put on the sunscreen lotion!

June 19th 10am-11am: Get Caught Up in a Clean Up (activity ten)

Come join the BCWEC team as we learn why it’s important to keep our community clean.  Participants will have an opportunity to join the Little Beaver Creek Land Foundation for their annual “River Sweep” clean-up on Little Beaver Creek.

June 26th 10am-11am: Explore a Wetland (activity eight)

Most people think wetlands are just stinky muddy areas.  Come learn from Naturalist Richelle why wetlands are so important.

July 3rd 10am-11am: Surprise activity

I wonder what could be in store for today????   I guess you’re going to have to show up to find out!

July 10th 10am-11am: Hike a Trail (activity three)

There are so many cool things to be seen while walking through the woods. Come join the BCWEC team as we explore the trail behind the Wildlife Education Center.

July 17th 10am-11am: Splash in a Stream (activity six)

Nothing is more fun than walking through the creek on a nice warm day. But did you know that many things call the creek home? Come join the BCWEC and Little Beaver Creek Land Foundation team as we talk about stream life. Wear old shoes and prepare to get wet!

July 24th 10am-11am: Camp Under the Stars (activity one)

A great way to feel close to nature is to go camping. Come join Naturalist Richelle as she talks about some of the things you need when you go camping, as well as some cool activities you can do.

July 31st 10am-11am: Spot a Bird (activity two)

Did you know that bird watching, often called “birding”, is the largest spectator sport in America? Come join the BCWEC team and see what the fuss is all about!

August 7th 10am-11am: Rocks of Ohio

Have you ever picked up a rock and wondered what kind it was? Well come meet with Naturalist Richelle to learn some cool things about the rocks found in Ohio.
